Journal 16: Chaos in Braintree

Today at East Middle School in Braintree, Massachusetts, multiple students were rushed to the hospital in an ambulance after a chemical leak in the school's kitchen. After the smell became noticeable, it was discovered that a cleaning agent used in the school's oven had not fully drained before it was turned on. Students at East Middle School began showing symptoms near immediately after. All I have to say is that had the ovens been cleaned with a chemical-free cleaner, the health of those students would not be at risk.

These kinds of incidents are the very things I think that a more sustainable way to clean could prevent. Maybe you can't clean everything with apple cider vinegar, and that's not what I'm saying, but there has got to be a way to clean that doesn't involve major health risks. What if there was an "edible" cleaner? Does that already exist? This might be something I investigate further throughout the year- a cleaner that can be ingested with no health implications. I hope to follow the story of East Middle School as the students are hopefully deemed safe.
